Guernsey’s hospitality sector has welcomed the announcement of a new British Airways route linking Heathrow and Guernsey, due to begin in April as part of a three-year deal. The service, which will operate around lunchtime from the UK’s busiest airport, is being hailed as a significant boost for the island’s visitor economy and wider business community.
Alan Sillett, President of the Guernsey Hospitality Association, said:
“We’re absolutely delighted. This is a hugely positive step for Guernsey’s economy and for everyone who relies on reliable, competitive air connectivity. A direct link to Heathrow sends a clear signal that Guernsey is open for business and serious about strengthening its transport links. For hospitality in particular, along with the wider visitor economy, finance sector and local businesses, this provides a level of confidence we haven’t had for some time.
The lunchtime slot is very welcome. It offers strong connectivity into the global route network at Heathrow while still being convenient for both business and leisure travellers. If this service is marketed properly and supported consistently, it can absolutely help unlock the £20 to £40 million in wider economic activity we’ve previously referenced. Better air links don’t just help visitors reach us, they improve business confidence, attract investment and support year-round economic growth.
One flight a day is a good starting point, and we fully support it. And if the route performs well, adding frequency, whether additional daily flights or seasonal increases, would only strengthen our resilience, competitiveness and appeal as both a destination and a place to do business.”
