Event organisers of the Hopsitality Awards stood at the front of the room with a microphone speaking to the seated crowd before the event kicks off.

Last week, The Farmhouse hosted the inaugural People Awards—an evening full of pride, gratitude and celebration, shining a light on some of the exceptional individuals working across Guernsey’s hospitality industry. The event was a fantastic success, and we would like to extend our warmest congratulations to all of our thoroughly well-deserved winners.

    • Rising Star Award – Taylor Piggot
      Taylor Piggot, winner of the Rising Star award, has quickly established himself as one to watch. Now Sous Chef at JB Parker’s, Taylor began his journey with an apprenticeship at Moores Hotel after moving to Guernsey in 2022. Coming from a family of chefs, his ambition, work ethic and hunger to learn have seen him progress rapidly. He is constantly developing his culinary skills and continues to impress with his dedication and talent.
    • Unsung Hero Award – Geraldine Cunningham
      Geraldine Cunningham received the Unsung Hero award in recognition of her unwavering dedication to Moores Hotel, where she has worked since 2006. Despite facing serious health challenges, Geraldine has always shown extraordinary strength and resilience. She ensures every guest feels valued—remembering returning visitors and marking special occasions with genuine care. Her loyalty and quiet excellence make her a true star behind the scenes.
    • Front of House Star Award – Montana Sandez
      Montana Sandez, winner of the Front of House Star award, joined Rouge Wine and Cheese in 2021 and has since risen to the position of General Manager. Alongside her work, Montana has continued her WSET studies, recently passing Level 3 with Merit. Her warm, humorous and honest approach to service, combined with her professionalism and focus on the customer experience, have made her a standout in her field.
  • Chef of the Year Award – Mateusz Skomerski
    Mateusz Skomerski, Head Chef at Tinto, was awarded Chef of the Year for his creative flair and unwavering passion. A cornerstone of the Tapas Bar since its opening in 2016, Mateusz has played a key role in developing Tinto’s unique identity. He blends tradition with innovation, producing exceptional dishes that leave a lasting impression on guests. His menus reflect both his artistry and his deep respect for the culinary traditions that inspire him.
  • Top Team Award – La Barbarie Hotel
    The Top Team award, chosen by the public from a shortlist of four outstanding finalists, was awarded to La Barbarie Hotel. With well over 1,000 votes cast, the response from the community was terrific. This award reflects not only the team’s excellence in hospitality, but the lasting impression they have made on locals and visitors alike. A huge congratulations to the entire team at La Barbarie.
  • Special Recognition Award – Gunter Botzenhardt
    The Special Recognition award, chosen by the Guernsey Hospitality Association Board, was presented to Gunter Botzenhardt, Chef Proprietor of Le Nautique Restaurant. Gunter’s career spans many of Guernsey’s most renowned establishments, including the Royal, Valentino’s and La Fregate, before taking the reins at Le Nautique. His commitment to excellence, consistent leadership and dedication to the island’s hospitality sector have made him a true ambassador for the industry. Congratulations, Gunter.

Speaking after the event, President of the Guernsey Hospitality Association, Alan Sillett, said:

“It’s not often we get together, so it was a fantastic occasion to celebrate the heartbeat of our association – our people. They do a great job, with a smile, and deserve every bit of praise.”
